Shazia Ali, M.D.
Dr. Shazia Ali is a Board-Certified, dual Fellowship trained ophthalmic surgeon specializing in Cornea/Anterior segment and Pediatric ophthalmology/Strabismus disease. She performs all types of corneal transplant surgeries, anterior segment surgeries (pterygium, MIGS, secondary intraocular lenses), standard and premium cataract surgery, and strabismus surgery in adult and pediatric patients.
Dr. Ali earned her medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine and continued her residency training at the Cullen Eye Institute at Baylor College of Medicine where she received the Everett L. Goar Research Award for excellence in research twice. She completed her first fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus at the Texas Children’s Hospital and her second fellowship in Cornea/External Disease at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHSC). She has a deep passion for teaching the next generation of surgeons and spent the next 5 years at UTHSC as the Director of Medical Student Education training residents and medical students. She continues to train resident surgeons at the Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital.
Given her unique dual-fellowship training, Dr. Ali is one of the few physicians qualified to perform pediatric corneal surgery in the area and is a specialist in pediatric anterior segment disease. She has performed many pediatric corneal transplant surgeries in the Texas Medical Center and frequently manages complex cataract surgeries and corneal disease from the entire region. She is honored to work with pediatric patients in order to impact and improve their quality of life for decades to come by improving their vision at an early age.
