Katherine Johns, O.D., M.S., F.A.A.O.

Dr. Katherine Johns is originally from Phoenix, Arizona.  She attended Vanderbilt University on a competitive academic merit scholarship to earn her bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, graduating with Honors after completing Vanderbilt’s College Scholars program.  She went on to attend the University of Houston College of Optometry to receive her Doctorate of Optometry, Summa Cum Laude.  During her doctoral training, she received awards including The Ebling Award in Medical Contact Lens Patient Care, a certificate for achieving the highest National Board score for the University of Houston, and induction into the Beta Sigma Kappa academic honorary society. 

She then took further coursework and completed original clinical research to earn her Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Physiological Optics and Vision Science, focusing on Low Vision studies.

Before joining Eye Specialists of Texas, Dr. Johns practiced in Denver, Colorado, providing comprehensive eye care to pediatric through geriatric patients, including an emphasis on caring for Veterans through a VA provider program.

 

At Eye Specialists of Texas as a Therapeutic Optometrist and Licensed Glaucoma Specialist, Dr. Johns’ specialties include the treatment and management of ocular diseases and infections, minor ocular injuries, pre- and post-operative care, glaucoma, dry eye, binocular vision care, and contact lens prescribing, including fitting medical contact lenses when necessary for patients with corneal pathology.

Dr. Johns passionately believes in treating each patient like she would treat her own family, and she places utmost value on doctor-patient communication and education.  In line with this goal, she has also prioritized learning Spanish, and will be happy to assist patients in Spanish at both of our office locations.  Her interests include travel, spending time with family, and trying new restaurants in the Houston area.
